Abstract

The main purpose of this paper is to present nurses' vision on their professional perspectives. Data was collected through a questionaire of a single question: "What future do you envisage for Nursing in the XXI Century ? The answers given show that the discourses reflect visons towards two poles. The first, that Nursing is the profession of the future because then will be established more precise delimitations of its role in the area of health care. In the future, according to this vision, the professional will be more valued also because of its contribution to interdisciplinary actions. The second pole points towards the possibility of the profession being vanished because:(1) of the lack of definitions regarding its role;(2) of absence of drive of its members; and (3) too much emphasis on technical aspects of its actions.
