Abstract

Our objective was to analyze the scientific literature available, correlating physical activity, mental health and psychosocial rehabilitation. We searched Medline, Lilacs and Scielo databases, using as key words "psychosocial rehabilitation", "mental health" and "physical activity". We noticed a lack of studies integrating the above mentioned themes, although there has been a gradual increase recently. The existing studies point out the contribution of programmed physical activity for maintaining and restoring general health and promoting mental health. Therefore, it is necessary for Physical Education professionals to be integrated into multidisciplinary mental health teams. Further studies are also necessary, in order to gather data to help enhance evidence-based treatment.
