PUBLIC FINANCING (FIES AND PROUNI) FOR THE MEDICAL EDUCATION IN BRAZIL
A LITERATURE REVIEW AND THE DISTORTIONS CREATED

Introduction: The pressures of society, after the expansion of private higher education, result in the creation of FIES and PROUNI. With the increase in the number of new medical schools as a result of the More Doctors Program, pressures may occur due to vacant vacancies, student default or reduction of government incentives. Objective: to map the studies on student financing for higher education in Brazil and to conduct a discussion relating the findings to the situation of undergraduate medicine in Brazil. Method: Scooping review by the Joanna Briggs Institute, with mnemonic PCC, being government funding for the population; privatization, for Concept, and academic institutions, for Context. Results: 134 articles were found for a final selection of 11 papers. The results showed the importance of government aid to private educational organizations, encouraging the expansion of the segment. Conclusions: for medical education, private expansion is a reason for warning due to the questionable quality of many institutions.
