GRAMSCI, EDUCATOR OF THE LOWER CLASSES
Keywords:
Antonio Gramsci, Popular education, Hegemony and education, Marxism and popular education.Abstract
The objective of this article is to accentuate some aspects of Gramsci's educational practice, in order to contribute to the outlining of his Pedagogy. From an analysis of some of his texts from youth, as well as some of his letters, it is our goal to highlight his radical political commitment as it relates to the cultural and critical formation of the people, and the ways through which it resulted in concrete educational actions. We also seek to demonstrate that such commitment was present throughout the author's life, expressing itself in the different activities he developed: as a journalist; as a partisan co-director; as a school organizer; as a creator of learning materials; as an educator to adults, acting both face to face and through distance learning under different circumstances and spaces, including in prison. This article doesn't exhaust the discussion of a possible Gramscian Pedagogy, which due to the complexity and magnitude of the author's work, will remain open.
