The meanings of work in the voices of workers/students of the youth and adult education – EJA

This article aims to understand the meanings attributed to work by the workers/students (TEs) of Youth and Adult Education (EJA). Through qualitative research, we conducted a semi-structured interview with seven workers/students enrolled in the 1st and 2nd segments of EJA in a public school in Santa Maria – DF. Based on the proposal of the meaning cores formulated by Aguiar, Soares and Machado (2015), and Aguiar and Ozella (2013), four meaning cores were constructed from the participants' reports. The synthesis of our analysis allowed us to infer: i. That the construction of meanings is mediated by the centrality of work in the ways of living and surviving, ii. The subjects of EJA carry relevant social marks in the processes of subjectivation of the worker-being in accordance with the social meanings valued from capitalist sociability, iii. Meanings that form them from the social experiences and knowledge learned at work emerged, configuring the ways of existing and resisting in the world.
