Abstract

This article analyzes the relationship between ultramontanes and progressive groups in Campinas in the 1870’s. Although both are studied being in conflict, the approach will focus moments when they collaborate with other. We will look for what made them approximate, their goals, their gains, and the results of this approximation. This article will approach about devotion manifestation in brotherhoods, with the dynamics of religious festivities and the participation of brotherhood in public space. Besides that, the benefits donations have an important space. They will be used to reflect how the assistance, charity and/or philanthropy were used and the advantages to the donors.
