The purpose of this work was to report the experience of a group of students who developed the phases of the strategic planning proposed by Cecílio (1997). This activity was carried out during the training program of the course on Nursing Administration II, offered in the 7th period of the Undergraduate Nursing Program at the School of Nursing of the Federal University of Minas Gerais - UFMG. The authors diagnosed a problem experienced by one of the students; searched for its causes and elaborated an intervention plan. The students considered the strategic planning an adequate tool in the management of nursing care, as it is a collective practice, enabling the involvement and commitment of the health professionals in the activities developed. Based on this experience, the students recommend to the faculty of this course to continue teaching strategic planning, as it is an essential tool to manage health services, and it is focused on the quality of the care provided.Downloads
