In bone marrow transplantation it is necessary to make prolonged use of central venous catheters, since all the treatment is done through these. The complications with the catheter are seen constantly, bringing about the need to carry out research through a review of the literature. This study intends to seek to understand the events, evaluate techniques for handling catheters and nursing care to minimize or prevent these complications. The search was carried out in the databases: Scielo, Medline and Lilacs. The inclusion criteria for articles were: describe the complications and the nursing approach to the catheter. We noted that the authors believe in the aseptic technique, the use of different antiseptics, as well as a strict nursing protocol as the main reason to reduce infection rates for central venous catheters.Downloads
