This study identifies nursing actions in the admission of patients at a surgical centre of three hospitals of the northwest region of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. It is a qualitative, descriptive and case study research. Open interview and field diary were used to collect data. Six nurses from the surgical centers took part in the study. Analysis of the data show three major nursing actions: to evaluate the physical and the emotional condition of the patient at the surgical center, to familiarize the patient with the environment of the surgical center, and to accompany the patient, highlighting the academic background as a base of the care. These results may help nurses and nursing students to qualify the assistance given to the patient at the surgical center.Downloads
