A RESTAURAÇÃO DE UM CHALÉ DE FERRO EM BELÉM E AS QUESTÕES PRÁTICAS DA PRESERVAÇÃO DA ARQUITETURA DO FERRO

The article tries to approach the practical subjects of the preservation of iron architecture, starting the analysis of the restoration work carried out on the iron chalet, property of the Federal University of Para (Universidade Federal do Pará) – a rare example of the massiveextensive employment of entirely iron constructions in Brazilian architecture. For this, the characteristics of this building are analyzed as well as the transformations it has undergone, including its restoration in 1992. This research tries to inquire into the technicalconceptual directives/decision making that has guided modifications in the chalet. This has helped to define the practical issues at stake in the preservation of the iron architecture.
