Abstract

This article proposes a discussion about the erasure and invisibility of the historical memory of women in public spaces in Porto Alegre. The main objective is to analyze the reduction of female figures, in most cases, to secondary roles, hidden and expendable in urban places of memory, based on the critical observation of public monuments. The monumental examples referenced reflected, together with a historiographical and conceptual discussion, how much the analysis of the representation of women's memory in the public space is necessary to denaturalize the space of everyday life, bringing these historically silenced memories to the public scene, allowing the construction of new narratives about the historical past.
