Abstract

In this article we present the partial result of the development of some actions based on research in written and printed historical sources carried out by the Ocupa Fazenda Engenho Novo Movement, a popular movement organized in 2018 in the municipality of São Gonçalo, in the State of Rio de Janeiro, whose initiative aims to rescue the historical and preserve of Fazenda Engenho Novo,  located in the Monjolos district, and which in recent years has been deteriorating. Listed by INEPAC in 1998, this space is a representative heritage of the material and immaterial culture of the enslaved African population and its descendants in the city of São Gonçalo. Thus, the preservation of this space opens the possibility for the expansion of studies and debates on ethnic-racial relations in Rio de Janeiro.
